Rainbow Beach

Rainbow Beach is approximately 76 km east of Gympie, 265 km north of Brisbane and 700 metres west ofFraser Island. World Heritage listed Fraser Island is a 15 minute barge journey from Rainbow Beach. Rainbow Beach is the perfect place to escape offering kilometres upon kilometres of unspoilt surf beaches. Rainbow Beach has plenty to offer the backpacker or holiday maker such as theDouble Island Point, the Coloured Sands and the sheltered bay that is great for swimming, fishing, swimming and lots of other water sports.

Rainbow Beach offers fishing, surfing, boating, diving, sailing, bushwalking, paragliding, handgliding, golfing, birdwatching, horseback riding, houseboating, 4 wheel driving, lawn bowls and fine dining. Sharks and bluebottles are present and the beaches are unpatrolled so common sense and extra care needs to be taken.

Beach camping is permitted in a 15 km zone of Teewah Beach between Noosa Shire and Freshwater Creek. Beach driving in 4WD vehicles can be attempted one hour each side of low tide.

Fishing is one of the most popular activities on the beach with bream, dart, whiting, tailor and flathead caught. Good quality crabs have also been caught. Rainbow Beach is famous for its deep sea fishing.

Fraser Island is the largest sand island in the world and has tropical rainforests and fresh water lakes in the middle as well as endless beaches and mountainous sand dunes. Fraser Island offers fishing, boating, picniking and beach combing on the silky sand. The Great Sandy National Park offers four-wheel drive tracks amongst freshwater lakes, rainforest and beaches.

Tin Can Bay is a small fishing village West of Rainbow Beach where the indo pacific humpback dolphins are hand fed each morning.

Rainbow Beach has a wide variety of accommodation from luxury units, holiday homes, house boats, yachts, and there are two caravan parks and a backpackers. The caravan parks offer different accommodation options like tent and no facilities to powered tent sites, powered caravan sites and drive thru sites.

Rainbow Beach is very popular with hand gliders, 4WD enthusiasts, families and backpackers.Rainbow Beach is also the gateway Rainbow Beach is not just a town but a coastal lifestyle that is attracting sea-changers to the area.
